A Friend Remembered

For some reason, May 3rd lingered in my mind - and caused me to feel a shadow of sadness. And then I remembered - one of my dearest friends, a close confidant and the most incredible co-worker with whom I have ever worked would have been 62 years old today. Unfortunately Sue passed away in 2004 after battling breast cancer for several years.

She was an amazing woman - funny, intelligent, loving, and a wonderful dancer. She was six feet tall, or in her terminology - five feet, twelve inches! And to intimidate men, she would wear three-inch heels! She was a hard worker and so perfectly organized. She kept our facilitations and trainings absolutely in order.

She was also a loving step-mom to her three step-kids - Matt, Sam and Sarah. She was so proud of them and in essence became their true Mother. I'm sure they will be thinking of her and missing her this Mother's day.

She was my friend, my best friend through some troubling times. On our travels throughout Iowa doing workshops and across the country attending conferences, we talked, we laughed, we munched on our comfort foods - Diet Coke and M & Ms - and we had a blast! We had our differences and disagreed on several things - politics, for one. And we argued - but we always moved toward our conflicts, worked them out, sometimes agreeing to disagree, and maintained a loving friendship.

I miss her - I miss that sense of camaraderie, the ability and willingness to talk about anything, and the courage to try something new. We always stretched in our learning and in our instruction. She, too, has left a "hand print on my heart."
